ANOTHER HIGH-SPEED PLANTER: Kinze Manufacturing is adding to its 4905 planter lineup with a new 16-row machine. It joins the 24-row machine introduced for the 2021 season. The 16-row machine was originally targeted for 2022, but according to Susanne Veatch, Kinze president, “Testing went so well, we’re pleased that we’re able to move up our timeline and make this model available to farmers next season.” The new planter incorporates the Kinze-developed True Speed system includes a new high-speed electric meter and seed delivery tube, enabling corn and soybean farmers to plant at speeds up to 12 mph. Veatch adds that both planter configurations allow farmers to double the number of acres they plant in a typical day, or cover the same number of acres in a more timely fashion. John Deere 5R and 6M tractors can be ordered with an AutoTrac guidance screen built into the tractor’s corner-post display. Once a StarFire Receiver is added, an AutoTrac activation is completed and the setup process completed, operators can start using hands-free steering. According to Lyle McMillan, marketing manager, John Deere, “Integrating AutoTrac on the corner-post display gives you an affordable and simple way to use straight-line guidance without needing to buy a separate display.” Learn more at johndeere.com.

BETTER DRIP TAPE: Managing water more precisely has become increasingly important across many crop types. One tool is subsurface irrigation and other approaches that use drip tape. Toro has launched Toro Aqua-Traxx Azul drip tape that’s designed to be clog-resistant. The tape uses a new flow-path design to more effectively resist clogging. The new tape uses a patent-pending filter inlet design and optimized flow passages that guard the flow-path labyrinth from debris, but also pass through more debris to maximize clog resistance.
